Club infinity will not be holding regular office hours for the summer term. To buy math exams you will have to make an appointment by email or facebook. Once the summer semester starts there will be more executives and scheduling appointments will be more flexible.

Executive positions for next year are up for grabs. Sign up for the positions you want to run for by writing your name on the chalkboard at Club Infinity. The ballots will be cast this and counted on Friday.

Career Conversations: Careers in Math & Stats

Interested in a career in Math and Stats? Want to meet York Alumni and other professionals working in the field?

Connect with professionals currently enjoying careers in Mathematics and Statistics and get the inside scoop on what it’s really like to work in these fields. During this panel, professionals will share their personal stories about breaking into their fields, how their career paths took them from graduation to where they are now, what knowledge, skills and experience helped them succeed in their jobs and what types of opportunities are available in the field. The panel will be followed by an open forum where students will have an opportunity to ask the panelists their own questions.

This event will be preceded by a Math & Stats advising session:

  • 4-5pm: Joint advising session on programs within Math & Stats
  • 5-6pm: Pizza and Q&A
  • 6-7pm: Career Conversations Panel

Graduate Program Info Session

Would like to learn more about what opportunities are available after your B.A. or B.Sc. degree? Are you considering a masters or Ph.D. program ? Are you thinking about your job prospects after graduation?

Graduate Program Director Mike Zabrocki will address your questions about graduate studies at a Q&A session.

  • Wednesday, January 20
  • 3:30pm-5:30pm
  • in Ross N638
(just near the elevators on the 6th floor of N Ross).

Some of the things Mike will discuss are:
  • requirements and differences of the M.A. and M.Sc. programs
  • how to be successful in your application
  • why you should consider doing a masters or Ph.D.
  • funding for students in the masters programs

This info session is targeted at 3rd and 4th year undergraduate students, but all are welcome to attend if you want to learn more about the graduate opportunities. Please come for all or part of this session.

The deadline to apply for a masters program in mathematics and statistics is Feb 3. This is a good opportunity to ask questions about your application.

ASA Case Competition and ASNA INFO Session

A message from the Actuarial Student Association:

Hello Fellow Actuaries, Faculty Members and Studentss

This is a reminder that for those who are attending tomorrows ASNA Info Session and the case competition. Both will take place at ACW 002. That is Accolade West Room 002, it is on the lower floor of the building.

The ASNA Information session will take place at 5:30PM, it will begin with the announcement for the winners of the YorkU case competition. It will contain valuable information on pricing, registration employment opportunities and what to expect from the event. For those who do not know, ASNA is an annual meeting for students and employers of the actuarial profession. It is the place for you to begin networking and look for a job.

The Case Competition will take place at 4:00PM-5:00PM, anyone may attend but in order to compete you must have sent your paper report to the following email: actsciyorku_at_gmail.com, with the names and student numbers of your group members, and the title "ASA Case Submission 2015". Do you know an outstanding professor or teaching assistant in the Faculty of Science? Nominations to the Committee on Teaching and Learning (CoTL) are due October 5 at 3 pm. Lecturers and supervisors of the nominee are not eligible until the following year.
